My friend Judith (afro Venezuelan) called to ask me if I thought it was right that her restaurant got excluded from Philly black restaurants week. When they heard her accent they told her she could only be in the Hispanic restaurant week šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø. (They accepted other nationalities restaurants)

ā€œI call you because you are a black Latina and you understand how aggravating this is,ā€ she said. I understand her pain šŸ˜¢

I said, Judith write them back and explain that black is your race and Hispanic is your ethnicity, that your ancestors were slaves, that they fought to get your civil rights in Venezuela just like all the other black people in the Americas, and that they canā€™t deny your blackness only because they are ignorant.šŸ˜”

I wish people knew black history beyond their own country so that we could unite and advance our goals as one people.
